Our History

In 2019 two shops started up opposite each other in Okaihau township. The first was by owner Annie Blackmore with Village Fruit and Vege which extended her already operating Berry Nice Cream Van business. The other business was restarted by Jacqueline Poole and Paul Payne, The Settlers Way Country Store, with an eclectic mix of old and new crafts and giftware.
As we came into the winter season we began to discuss a possible merger and when Covid-19 struck NZ this cemented the plan. The new business partnership began in April 2020 as Settlers Way Country Store and Green Grocers. In 2022 we took the leap and moved into the old Rogers & Merdith Hardware building. What was once a hardware and mower repair shop, was transformed into Settlers Way Country Store.
We not offer a wide range of giftware, a section of Fruit & Vegetables, groceries, wholefoods, traditional NZ sweets, and a delightful book nook along with our REAl FRUIT Ice Creams.
